The Forecast

The Forecast, Monocle's yearly magazine eagerly anticipates the year ahead. In its fifth iteration, the Small Cities Index illuminates lesser-known urban treasures. Health & Fitness

Fitness - The push up

How many push ups can you do in a minute? And before you say I’m not even going to try, the number you can do in a minute could predict your risk of heeart disease!

In a test involving firefighters with an average age of 40, those could do 40 or more had a 96% lower risk than those that could do 10 or less push ups. Now before you say theres no way I can do 40, the study also showed that those that could do at least 11 also had a lower risk, but the more they could do the greater the benefit.

The beauty of this exercise is that you can do it any where and it requires no equipment at all. Done correctly it not only works the chest muscles the triceps, anterior deltoids and core muscles are also involved.

Give it a go and see what you can achieve, and I’m interested to hear your results. Either join the 1968 whatsapp group here or email/whatsapp me privately.
