In April this year, Adidas launched the Futurecraft.Loop, their first 100% recyclable performance running shoe. Click this link to read about the journey to produce a range of recyclable shoes and products .
“Let’s start at the beginning. It’s a fact that just 9% of plastic waste has ever been recycled. What happens to your shoes after you’ve worn them out? You throw them away – except there is no away. The wonderland we referenced earlier doesn’t exist. As a result, we’re facing a grave environmental threat in the form of plastic, which is increasingly clogging landfills and oceans.”
Health & Fitness
You are what you eat.
63% of Brits and 67% of Americans are now overweight or obese, and in the UK around 36% of children are an unhealthy weight. Ultra-processed food is the main culprit with many people eating excessively but still being in nutritional deficit.
Surprisingly in the UK and USA, most newly qualified doctors and nurses will have barely any training in diet, lifestyle and nutrition.
A recent survey also found that over half of NHS employees were overweight or obese.
Cereals are not as healthy as you may have thought!
Cereal crops are sprayed, pre-harvest, with the herbicide glyphosate as this speeds up the crop drying process.
To reduce your exposure to such chemicals, look for organic alternatives.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) labelled glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic”.
For further information on Glyphosate check out this link to the Pesticide Action Network.
Music
A bit of a change in my music habits this month as I have been listening to more Soul music than anything else.
Kelly Finnigan and the Monophonics, the self proclaimed worlds premier psychedelic soul band, have been high on my rotation.
I’m listening to
Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson on a podcast has to be worth a listen!
