You are what you drink …

Researchers have found that, on average, a litre of bottled water included about 240,000 tiny pieces of plastic. About 90% of these plastic fragments were nanoplastics. This total was 10 to 100 times more plastic particles than seen in earlier studies, which mostly focused on larger microplastics.

Boiling and filtering water can reduce the amount of plastics but the main way to reduce your intake is to stop using bottled water. If you really need to buy bottled water go for glass bottles.

If you need a good water filter I can highly recommend the PHOX filter.

The container is glass and the water unit is made from recycled plastic. The best bit, unlike many filter units you refill the filter every 45 days and the refills arrive in plastic-free packaging.

Well balanced …

As we age balance along with grip strength is something that falls away, see how you are doing with this test.

  1. Place your shoes and socks in front of you.

  2. Balancing on one leg, bend down, pick up your sock and put it on without touching your foot to the floor. Now while still balancing on one leg do the same with your shoe and tie up the laces.

  3. Switch legs and repeat the process.

  4. If you fail an easy way to improve your balance is to stand on one leg while you are brushing your teeth.

Good standing balance is significantly associated with higher cognitive function and a lower decline in mental status and global cognition in middle-aged and older adults.

Not EDC but a kitchen essential for some - Jar Opener Bottle Opener and Ring Pull Can Opener for Weak Hands Arthritis Hands, Elderly and Children

6 in 1 jar and bottle opener--Eight sizes of circular openings make the jar opener extremely convenient to open small and medium size lids(1-3 inches), the hooks on the top can be used to open the large-size lids by breaking the air seal, and can also be used to open the ring pull cans.

I have just ordered one of these as I know someone who is having real issues opening jars, bottles and ring pulls. At only £6 it’s a bit of a bargain!
