Coffee Time

Since the 1950s, coffee has been one of the world’s most-traded commodities – at one point, it ranked second, behind oil. But not all coffee is equal.

Speciality single origin coffee is usually made from Arabica beans rather than the bitter Robusta beans that are usually found in cheaper instant coffee.

Arabica tend to have a sweeter taste due to being grown at higher altitudes.

The method of harvesting also has an effect, Arabica beans tend to be picked by hand ensuring that only the ripest are picked ensuring the best flavour. Robusta beans tend to be a mix of ripe and the bitter unripe fruit due to being stripped from the plant.

There are exceptions in the instant coffee realm with the likes of Littles using only Arabica for their coffee…..try the Vanilla coffee from Littles!

By using a speciality coffee you are helping the farmers as they tend to get a better deal for their produce.

Health & Fitness

Creatine Supplements

Well known as a supplement of choice for the gym crowd, creatine may have benefits for a wider audience.

Generally creatine helps to build and maintain muscle when combined with strength training by.

  • Increases cell signalling, which aids muscle repair and growth.

  • Raises levels of certain hormones ,which support muscle growth.

  • Reduces muscle breakdown, by reducing protein breakdown.

  • Supports cell hydration.

  • Reduces levels of the protein myostatin, which can slow muscle growth.

But there are other potential health benefits of increasing your creatine intake. As a small percentage of creatine is stored in the brain, an increase in creatine storage can protect against neurological diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Creatine supplementation has therefore been studied as a possible therapeutic agent for such diseases.

Research has suggested that Creatine may improve cognitive function, memory, and overall brain health, offering a holistic approach to well-being for men over 40.

I am using Creatine Monohydrate capsules from my protein as they have been the most researched form of Creatine. You can find them on the my protein site here
